People have lucky charms so why not lucky jewelry? I’m sure there are people who have piece of jewelry that they truly believe are lucky.

I’m not usually someone to think ANYTHING is lucky but if I did, my lucky piece of jewelry would be a pearl ring.

When my grandmother died a few years ago, I inherited a bunch of her jewelry. The favorite piece of hers that I have now is a pearl and diamond ring. It is like nothing I have seen in stores and it has proven to be lucky for me.

I don’t think the ring has any actual special qualities, but when I wear it I feel sexy and pretty and like I can do anything–for me that feeling creates good luck.

Some people watch the Oscars to see who wins each catagory. Some people watch to see what everyone is wearing. A lot of the people I know watch the Oscars to see the JEWELRY!

In case you don’t already know, most of the jewelry worn on the red carpet is borrowed. Big name jewelers lend big ticket items to the stars for the same reason big name designers give away clothes, to get their name out there. I think it’s an awesome way to get publicity and I hope I’m in a position someday to have someone famous wear one of my pieces!

All in all though, it seemed like people were disappointed in the jewels represented. There was almost no color and even the diamonds were understated. By far though, the trends are still clear. Bracelets and earrings–big earrings.

Here are a few designs I’ve done for some bracelets with matching earrings and ring (I had to do rings because they are MY favorite accessory.)

This wide bangle would be great in gold or silver. The rendering is with several different colored stones but you could choose any stones.

This link bracelet with matching earrings and ring would also be great in either gold or silver. This render is with diamonds but you could use color if you wanted!

This bracelet is rendered in white gold and rose gold but you could use any combination of metals and you could use silver for part or all of the pieces to lower the price.

This is another piece that I had made just for fun. The stone is a Trillion shaped Fire Opal with a faceted checker board style top. The stone is a brilliant orange but is translucent rather than transparent. There is very little play of color but it is still a very pretty stone.

The mounting is both white and yellow 14 Karat gold. The euro style shank has 4 small diamonds flush set in the corners that weigh 0.06 carats.

Let me know what you think!

This ring was designed with one of my friend’s in mind. She has three children now and wanted a mother’s ring. Unfortunately, she thought her children’s birthstones wouldn’t go well together since they are peridot, blue topaz, and ruby.

Fortunately for her, rubies can be quite pink and pink would look great with her other colors!

Then there is the next problem; there are 3 different stones which makes it impossible to make the ring symmetrical. I tried adding her and her husband’s birthstones in but both of those are amethyst. The color works well, but it doesn’t help with symmetry.
My first thought would be to have a wide band with the stones randomly on the top of the band in bezels. Again, we had another problem; she doesn’t wear big rings.

I thought that this design manages to accomplish everything she wanted without being too big. I used one larger amethyst for the middle to symbolize her and her husband with the smaller stones at the end of wavy cut outs to represent the children.

The band of the ring will still be the most prominent aspect of the design but it is only about 7mm wide. The bezel set stones will add a clean, modern flair to the ring but the colors shouldn’t be too overwhelming so as to make the ring look gaudy.

My friend’s third and last child was born in July 2008. I think she has waited long enough for a mother’s ring so I hope she likes this design so we can move forward with making it for her!

This Tanzanite and Diamond ring is going to be the next piece I manufacture because I love it!

My goal with this piece was to make a ring that looked dainty and classical but had some real punch because of the depth of the Tanzanite.

The ring is designed around a 7mm trillion cut Tanzanite. The stone has a great deep purple-blue color and I wanted to highlight the stone without taking anything away from it’s beauty.

I chose a very classical simple design that uses 42 1.5mm full cut diamonds. The diamonds frame the stone and add some sparkle to it’s deep color. Diamonds also go down the split shank and give the dainty ring some sparkle!

The problem with a design like this are the size of the prongs. Some people would look at this design and say that the prongs are way too big. Unfortunately, in order to have a piece come out in casting, you have to maintain certain thicknesses (generally 0.7mm.)

The way you combat this problem is with a really good jeweler. The jeweler will shave off any excess gold on the prongs that he doesn’t need to safely set the stones.

I hope this ring will turn out as beautiful as I hope it will! Pics to come when it is finished.
