A frame in jewelry suggests that a piece has a large singe stone with small stones encircling that stone, framing it.  It’s a fun way to add interest to a ring with extra stones and it can make the center stone look bigger.  I love this trend because it is such a classic and pretty design element to have small stones around a center stone.

Frames are fun with colored stones too.  All those diamonds around a colored stone can really make the colored stone pop.  It can be fun to use stones other than diamonds with color (or diamonds) also.  Take a look at a design I did for color with a frame.

Frames are tricky to buy because the ring has to be made to fit a specific stone.  I recommend that if you are interested in this type of design, buy your stone first and then find someone who can make a setting for you that will be customized to your stone’s dimensions.  You can also buy complete rings with frames and in that case the setting will probably fit the stone right.
