Family is still the best!
Yesterday I talked about the engagement ring and wedding band I designed for my father-in-law to give to his wife to be. But I also designed a wedding ring for him!
My father-in-law is a very active guy with a job where he works with his hands so he needs something durable but still nice that fits his personality. All the men in the family I married into live to do is ski. If doesn’t even matter to them what season it is. They ski on water and snow and i’m sure if they could figure out how, they’d find something to ski on in spring and fall too. I mentioned yesterday that he and his sons all have a wave tattoo that was important to his future wife to include in her ring so it would only fit that the wave would play a part in my father-in-law’s ring also. Because he wanted a pretty wide band and he wears a size 13 ring so I had a lot of room to play with for designs. We decided to use the wave design and alternate it with some mountains so that both of his passions would be represented. He didn’t want any diamonds so here is the simple yet completely personalized design that I came up with for him!
After we decided on the design, we had to decide on a metal. He didn’t really have much of a preference between yellow or white, he just wanted his ring to match his future wife’s rings so white metal it was. It kind of stinks being a man right now if you like rings because precious metals are so expensive right now that heavy men’s rings in big ring sizes can get pricey without being fancy. My father-in-law has no metal allergies so he could wear white gold, palladium, or platinum. Because he’s such a big guy, white gold and platinum were going to be prohibitively expensive so we decided to go with palladium.
I had the design made and the jeweler thought it would look nice to sandblast behind the designs to give added contrast, and to ensure an even finish in areas that would be difficult to polish. I think it turned out great and it was an honor to have such a large part in making their engagement and wedding so special!
